Oh happy day all you dad’s, father’s, and pa’s! It would be kinda fun to hear what dadism you go by or what your family pet name is for dad? The cutest and most endearing one I’ve heard is the name my husband’s family had for their grandpa…PopPop, although in their New York accents it sure sounded like PopUp when I heard it for the first time. Oh my!
Talk about dadisms…did you ever hear these or something like em’ from your dad?
- Do I need to come up to there!?
- How many times do I have to tell you??
- What the hell were you thinkin’?!
- Do you want a spanking?!
- Who left the damn light on??
- Do you want me to turn this car around?
I know huh? One thing I can say is dads…actually guys in general…just say it without messing around too much with feelings and such. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t show a little tenderness, especially on their biggest day!
Here is a recipe idea perfect for dad that has only 4 ingredients which anyone of us can make and bake. Have even the little kiddies get involved with this one
Cheese Sticks
In a medium size bowl mix together one cup grated sharp cheddar cheese and one cup flour. With a pastry blender or clean hands work in 2 tablespoons of soft butter until mixture is crumbly. Now add in enough cold water to bring the ingredients together into a pastry ball. Roll out on a lightly floured board, cut into sticks and bake on lightly greased cookie sheets in a 350° oven for 8 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
Phew!…betting dad would love these on game day too!

Brr! It does not feel like summer yet in our neck of the woods, in fact the heater popped on this morning while I was brewing coffee. Just the thought of sitting on the porch in the morning sun, enjoying a grandma inspired breakfast does warm me up a bit though.
I loved breakfast at grandma’s. Her meals were always homemade from scratch, inspired by her heritage and love of cooking. As I imagine sitting on a sunny porch…ahh, this summer breakfast just sounded extra yummy. Also it’s easy enough for any of us to try for our friends and family.
♥ Chamomile Sun Tea – Even though this was not a grandma inspired recipe I know my Grandma Katie would have loved serving this naturally delicious sun tea. Made with fresh chamomile flowers the author says it’s sweet and flowery with notes of lemon and banana. Hmm delish! PS You have got to see the photos
♥ Blackstone Eggs – From my Grandma Katie’s recipe journal these are a variation on the ever famous Eggs Benedict that substitutes bacon for the ham and adds a tomato slice. Make sure to include the Hollandaise sauce for this special recipe.
♥ Summer Fruit Salad – With a perfect pairing of fruits and topping this recipe for fruit salad would look really beautiful if you layered it in a parfait glass before serving. Thank you to grandma OhMe for sharing all the steps to make this yummy fruit salad recipe, just perfect for our summer breakfast.
I think these recipes combine just beautifully for a summer breakfast. What are your grandma inspired ideas and recipe shares for a summertime breakfast? Still dreaming up the next post, do you have any suggestions?

Lovely little gem of a recipe that I found in Grandma’s collection of cookbooks. This particular recipe for Roasted Quail is from the Mountain Cookbook, which is a compilation of recipes from the Southern Appalachian’s. Gotta tell you this is real home cooking from the heart!
If you have never cooked a quail a good size and preparation comparison would be a Rock Cornish Hen, usually sold frozen in your grocery store’s meat department. Quail, a popular game bird are appreciated in many cuisines, especially favored in French cooking. Today quail have been domesticated and more home cooks are finding the pleasures of cooking with this delicious bird.
This recipe for Roasted Quail is easy and very flavorful. Add sides of wild rice pilaf and steamed vegetables for a healthy, well-rounded meal. Set your oven to 275 degrees and prep your baking dish by lightly greasing the bottom with butter.
Lightly salt quail; place a lump of butter inside each bird. Rub birds with mixture of flour and butter. Place breast side up in your prepared baking dish and bake for 1 hour or until internal temperature is 180 degrees. During the baking process baste frequently with sauce made of 1/4 cup water, 3 tablespoons melted butter, 1/2 cup cooking sherry and 1/4 teaspoon fresh or dried marjoram.
Doesn’t that sound just lovely? Next up…my grandma’s on the net recipe finds for a scrumptious summer breakfast!
